On January 30th eight FFA members and Mr. Waldschimdt visited Hutchinson Community College. The members included Andy Korte, Ashley Kennedy, Shanny Mapel, Austin Slanker, Cody Morris, Eden Palmer, KaCee Carson, and Brandi Capps. All of these students would like to major in some type of agriculture and are considering HCC as a possible college choice. The morning started out with a power point presentation that gave general information about Hutchinson Community College and helpful tips on college life. Students also learned about possible scholarships and how to get help with financial aide. Jeff Shirley, an employee at HCC, gave students a tour of the campus which included the dorms, the Sports Arena, the library, classrooms, and several other buildings. After taking a break for lunch, students met up with the crops judging coach, Steve Sears, and saw the greenhouse and a couple plant and soil science labs. Mr. Sears explained some of the activities his students are involved in and what he teaches. The livestock judging coach at HCC, Bill Disberger, finished the tour of south campus by showing students the machine shop, and the HCC farm. Students came home with much needed information and a good idea of college life in the agricultural program at HCC.
