Bio: Coach Green will begin his 3rdd season at Oxford in the 2008-2009 school year. Prior to coming to OHS, Coach Green spent 2 years teaching and coaching at Council Grove High School. While at CGHS, Coach Green was an assistant high school boys coach under mentor Bruce Hula. Prior to his time at Council Grove, Coach Green coached in the Northern Heights school district at Admire Grade school. Coach Green spent one year as an assistant under Tony Haag, and another two years as the head junior high coach at Admire.
Coach Green's second season was another memorable one. The Wildcats finished 17-7 on the year, and in the process won their second consecutive SCBL regular season championship. The Wildcats also played in a sub-state final for the first time in over 20 years. The program produced another All-State player, as Bryce Mayes was named 2nd team All-State by the Wichita Eagle, Topeka Capital Journal, and the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association. Mayes and fellow junior Nick Hampton were also 1st Team All South Central Border League Selections. Sophomore Bryce Carter was an Honorable Mention All SCBL selection.
Coach Green's first season at Oxford, 2006-2007, was filled with highs and lows. The highs included an overall record of 18-4, SCBL regular season and SCBL tournament championships, as well as a #1 seed in the Chase County sub-state. The Wildcats beat a ranked opponent (Goessel) and were ranked in the KBCA top 10 for most of the year. The lows included a 2nd round sub-state loss to Flint Hills.
The Wildcats had several players this past season garner individual honors as well. Conner Hampton was a 1st Team KBCA All State selection. Conner and Bryce Mayes were 1st team All SCBL, while Brent Mayes and Leo Reed were Honorable Mention All SCBL.
Coach Green is a graduate of Nickerson High School and Emporia State University. He teaches High School Social Studies at OHS and is an assistant Football Coach
Coach Green and his wife Emily have a daughter, Madyson, who is a 1st grader at Oxford, and a son Kellen, who was born in Sept. of 2007.
John Mayes
Assistant Coach
Bio: Coach Mayes came to Oxford 3 years ago, and was the junior high head coach at Oxford. Coach Mayes joined the high school program last year. Coach Mayes is the head Junior Varsity coach and his varsity duties include scouting, guard development, and overall player development. Coach Mayes came to Oxford after spending several seasons as an assistant coach at Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in Wichita. While at Kapaun, Coach Mayes helped guide the Crusaders to one 5A state appearance. Coach Mayes has coached every level of basketball from the Biddy program in Wichita to MAYB to Junior High to High School.
Coach Mayes and his wife Mindy have 3 boys, Brandon, former Wildcat player Brent Mayes (2005-2007) and current Wildcat player Bryce.
Corbin Roberts
Director of Basketball Operations
Bio: Corbin, who is a junior at OHS, became the Director of Basketball Operations this year. Corbin's day to day job varies within the program. He is truly a jack of all trades. A very sharp game night dresser, he does everything from keeping stats at games, to helping with practice routines, to watching game film and breaking down film. He is a very valuable asset to our program and contributes to the program every day. Corbin hopes to become a coach someday and lists his hero's as his dad, and the great Bill Synder.
Brittani Walters
Director of Managerial Operations
Bio: A 3 year veteran of the managerial staff for the boys program, Brittani is a hard working, motivated individual. She takes pride in her work. Rather it be filling water bottles or washing uniforms, Brittani does it right all the time. She does a great job managing our staff which also includes 1st year managers Dana Reeves and Chelsea Bruner. They all do a great job and are a tremendous asset to the program. Brittani lists her hero's as Roger Cunningham and Coach Green.
