The OHS Forensics team not only once again walked away with a little plaque that says "Speech Champions" but also qualified two more students for state.  Senior Lynsey M. and sophomore Liza P. both qualified two events each at the league tournament.  Lynsey will be taking her Informative speech and Poetry Interpretation, while Liza will compete in her Prose Interpretation and Original Oration.  Brittani Walters and Aubrie Neises qualified their duet about the Holocaust, a difficult topic which they portrayed very well.    Although these events were the only new state qualifiers from the tournament, several other students did well, many of whom are already making the journey to Clearwater on May 3rd to compete in state.

Oxford took 23 events into finals, after entering 27 total.  That is an unbelievable amount of talent on one team.  Those 23 events fared well with 4 first place medals, 6 second place medals, 3 third place medals, 4 fourth place medals, 1 fifth place medals, and 4 sixth place medals.

Coach Lisa Deal stated that "many people assume this is not 'real' competition and it's a 'gimme' that we keep winning.  In fact, public speaking is the hardest fear for most people to overcome and these students are awesome!  With that being said, I know streaks end, and I don't always know what our rival league schools have, but these kids thrive on competition and trying to qualify for state. They are talented and they are good at what they do, all of them. I honestly could not be more excited for them."

The OHS performers will be holding their 4n6 Night to showcase their talents on Tuesday, April 29th. Make plans to attend; they are worth seeing.
