Use of companion AI applications has become popular among teens as a source for social interaction when people, often teens, feel lonely, bored, or isolated. A few facts: 72% of teens have used some sort of companion AI at least once 52% of teens use companion AI regularly Males are 2-5 times more likely to develop reliance on AI companions (Source: Common Sense Media, 2025)
Popular Companion AI apps are: Character.ai Replika Anima Chai Kindroid Nomi AI
These apps are programmed to be agreeable, but can become sexual and aggressive very quickly. Use of these apps are particularly risky for students with mental health struggles. (Example: A webinar presenter tested the use of Replika, and the app offered her a hug. When she said she didn't want a hug, the app quickly became very aggressive and guilt-tripping.)

FFA and 3rd grade kicked off their Agricultural partnership with a trip to The Kansas State Fair on Tuesday. Groups had fun learning all about Kansas.

High School Art students in Mrs. Short's class began work on a negative/positive space acrylic painting today. In this session, students chose a color scheme and filled their canvas with a nonobjective composition to use as their background. Tomorrow students will begin planning organic shapes within their theme to use in their final work.

OHS is offering two different courses this year that are allowing hands-on learning opportunities. The marketing application course led by Mr. Terry is tackling managing our concession stand. They plan to use the data from each game to determine the most efficient running of the business. Mrs. Garrett’s new consumer math course is focusing on developing businesses to learn the vital math skills needed in today’s world. To begin the year students have chosen to create a design business. Some designs even showcasing vintage wildcats some of you might recognize.
